Simon Says; Truly Scrumptious 72; Penny's Paper-Crafty 71; Papertake Weekly

Hi all!

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Simon Says Stamp's challenge was to use the sketch provided.

Truly Scrumptious blog's challenge 72 was to use something you'd forgotten you had because you hadn't used it in so long. I had two stamped images of the image I used on my card in my stash of hundreds of stamped images that came from swaps. I have no idea how long those have been sitting there. I was looking around in the miscellaneous baggie and found these and thought they'd make a perfect vintage type card. Something else that was really really old was the rub-on. It's by SU! and I've hoarded them for so long...

Penny's Paper-Crafty challenge 71 was to use ribbons and buttons.

Papertake Weekly's challenge was to use buttons, bows, bling or blooms. I used all 4!

Here's the card:

I have to be completely honest and say this is the only vintage style card I love out of the few attempts I've made. I think the trick is in the colors used and there's lots of inking edges and distressing. For once I did not screw up the card when it came time to add the sentiment! Wanted to use a stamped sentiment but I just knew it was not going to come out right, so I used a rub-on instead and let me tell you I'm so happy I did. This card is generic enough to suit any occasion.
Do you notice that I used a spotlight technique? Only I sort of reversed it. Instead of leaving the lower image white and coloring only the spotlight, I slightly sponged distress ink on the lower image and then cut out a circle out of the other identical stamped image using nestabilities and left it uncolored except for inking up the edge with a distress ink. I layered the white circle onto a circle scrap of newsprint pattern paper and also inked up the edges of that. I mounted the image onto a scrap of tissue paper that I had inked with distress ink and tore up the edges of the tissue paper before adhering the whole thing to a scalloped circle of pattern paper whose edges I had distressed, inked and bent slightly. I added a double bow to the piece of lace because I wanted bows but was not going to make it out of such a thick lace!

Supplies used:
stamp- unknown image from stash
ink: black; Tim Holtz distress ink in Vintage Photo and Tea Dye
card stock: Stampin' Up! in Kiwi Kiss; Georgia Pacific white; Papertrey Ink in Fine Linen
patterned paper: K & Company Classic K Margo Mat Pad
accessories: gold lace; brown grosgrain ribbon; buttons from stash; coarse off-white twine; The Paper Company Studio wedding jewels; scallop circle nestabilities; circle nestabilities; white tissue paper; Prima flowers from stash; Tim Holtz distressing tool; Inkssentials ink applicator; black pen (to add the "..." after the "for you" rub-on

Thanks for looking!
